The top five stories that got buried last week:

5) Fort Worth Announces Massive Water Slide

There’s sort of an unofficial competition between Fort Worth and Dallas, and Cowtown might have just taken a big step in the “Summer Attractions” category. According to the Dallas Morning News, the city will transform the iconic Main Street bridge into a 2,000 foot long slip-n-slide this June. That’s a long way away, and Dallas still has time to top it, but I’m marking my calendar regardless.

4) Your GPS Is Now Your Tour Guide!

The guys who brought you Groupon are now providing local flavor and history directly through your smart phone! Sensing a demand for community information, a group by the name of Detour is developing an app that uses your phone’s GPS to take you on a walking tour of the lesser-known landmarks near you! Development is still in its initial stages, and only a few cities are being programmed for now, but I’m excited to learn more about DFW’s secret excitement once we get added. Read more from Wired.

3) Marvel’s Avengers Get Girl Power, Hunger Games Looks for Staying Power

Little girls are getting more and more heroes like them, and that’s a good thing. Dual reports from SlashFilm say that Marvel Comics intends to release an all-female edition of the Avengers, unfortunately named the A-Force. In a world ruled by male heroes, it’s a start. Meanwhile, in the land where Katniss Everdeen reigns supreme, Lionsgate entertainment is said to be seeking ways to get more content out of the Hunger Games franchise. There’s definitely options there, but only time will tell if they’re any good.

2) Netflix Gives Us Another Reason to Never See Daylight Again

For as long as they’ve been around, Netflix has pushed the entertainment envelope (in the early stages, quite literally). Now, their original content is stepping up to the plate and seeking to deliver a feature that the Nintendo generation can equally anticipate and dread. ScreenRant says that a live-action Legend of Zelda series is in development and, while there are no names attached yet, the popular video game franchise is sure to generate a lot of buzz when it hits. Long time fans like me can only hope that it manages to take itself seriously without being goofy.

1) Prayer Brings Teen Back To Life

“It’s a bonafide miracle.” That’s what the doctor who treated 14-year-old John Smith said of the teen’s sudden return to life after 45 minutes without a pulse. His mother, whose prayer for her son had just left her lips when his heartbeat returned, has no doubt that something supernatural occurred. I have no problem believing her side of the story, but you can decide for yourself after reading the article published by USAToday.

Some crazy stuff this week, but reading it is only the beginning! Get out there and make your own headlines!
